I Have a Post Apocalyptic Online Friend C20.2

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Chapter 20. Part 2

They were heading to the desert soon, so she naturally chose comfortable, breathable clothes that allowed for easy movement.

She quickly grabbed three sets of women’s sportswear and a pair of shoes. As she passed the window display of a neighboring boutique, she couldn’t help but stop.

Apocalypse had struck in October, and the stores were all stocked with their autumn collections. These exquisite, beautiful clothes had been forgotten by the world, left to gather dust in the mall like tarnished treasures.

Lu Yuan turned back to look at her. “If you want to go in, just go. I’ll wait with you.”

“Really?”

He shrugged. “The mall is safe now. We have plenty of time.”

Zhou An’an couldn’t resist standing on tiptoe to give him a quick hug. Then she rushed into the clothing store and took down the dress she had her heart set on.

Lu Yuan froze on the spot, feeling as if her warmth still lingered on him. A tell-tale blush gradually crept up from his neck to his ears.

“Come help me see if this looks good!”

Zhou An’an’s voice called from inside the store. Lu Yuan rubbed his cheeks, took a calming breath, and walked in.

The dress was a deep brown, cinched at the waist with a white woven belt. The cuffs and hem were finished with tassels.

Zhou An’an had paired it with matching long boots and was admiring herself in the mirror, beaming with delight.

“Well?”

Lu Yuan frowned. “If the maximum score is one hundred, I’d give it a zero point one.”

Zhou An’an was speechless. “…Do you have any taste? This is the most popular style this year.”

Lu Yuan pursed his lips and walked away. After a moment, he took down a red floral dress and handed it to her. “This one looks good.”

Zhou An’an shook her head. “I don’t like it. I don’t want it.”

His taste is even more old-fashioned than my grandmother’s, she thought. And he’s supposed to be from over a hundred years in the future!

They moved on to another clothing store. Lu Yuan’s gaze froze as it swept over a gauze dress.

It was a light pink dress adorned with green and yellow embroidered patterns. The shoulders were designed in an off-the-shoulder style.

The thin, light gauze looked as ethereal as smoke and mist. The perfectly balanced color combination immediately brought to mind a garden shrouded in morning fog.

When Zhou An’an saw him stop and stare, she followed his gaze and was equally stunned.

“It’s gorgeous! I’ll try it on!”

Soon, she emerged from the fitting room. The dress fit her figure perfectly, and the fabric held a hidden secret: under the flashlight’s beam, sequins concealed beneath the gauze shimmered like rippling water.

Lu Yuan nodded in satisfaction.

Zhou An’an leaned in conspiratorially. “This is a bridal shop. Guess how much this dress is priced at?”

“How much?”

“One hundred thousand!”

In the past, she wouldn’t have dared to even dream of such a number. Now, she didn’t have to spend a single cent.

Lu Yuan had little concept of money. He glanced around and picked up a pair of equally sparkling shoes.

Zhou An’an slipped them on and admired her reflection in the mirror. “Dressed like this,” she sighed, “I could go get married right now.”

“You want to get married?” Lu Yuan asked, feigning casualness.

“Who didn’t dream of a grand wedding when they were a kid? But I’ll definitely never get the chance now,” Zhou An’an sighed.

Lu Yuan pressed his lips together noncommittally. “Let’s go. Time to find the other things we need.”

“Wait for me! I’ll change out of the dress!”

The high heels and gauze dress were only fit for a closet; wearing them for actual work would be torture.

Zhou An’an quickly changed into sportswear and sneakers, then found a shopping cart and tossed everything she wanted into it.

They had come only for pillows and bedsheets but left with a chaotic pile of miscellaneous items that barely fit in the truck.

Since there weren’t many zombies around the mall, they decided to park there, get a good night’s sleep, and head for the desert in the morning.

Lu Yuan moved the drinking water they’d found and filled the Unimog’s water tank to the brim.

Zhou An’an changed the sheets and quilts on both beds, tossing the old ones out the window. She even sprayed some designer perfume she’d taken from the mall.

Secretly, she pulled out a large pack of stickers she had found in a variety store.

When Lu Yuan finished his work, closed the door, and entered the truck, he discovered it had been completely transformed.

The walls of the cabin were covered in flower stickers of different varieties and colors, making it feel like they were inside a garden.

The bedsheets Zhou An’an had put on his bed were also printed with flowers.

“Like it? And there’s this, too!” She grinned, holding up a set of men’s pajamas covered in green and white floral prints.

Lu Yuan accepted them without hesitation. “Since you’ve shown some conscience, I’ll continue sleeping on the top bunk.”

He changed into the pajamas and climbed onto his bed. Zhou An’an turned off the lights and lay down quietly.

The bunk bed was a strange structure. They were so close that they could clearly feel each other’s every turn and even hear soft snores, yet neither could see the other.

She recalled the terrifying moment in the mall. In the few minutes she was being swallowed by the Mutated Lotus, she had truly believed she was going to die.

Thank goodness Lu Yuan was there.

Zhou An’an hugged the stuffed toy she’d taken from the mall and whispered, “I wish we could stay together forever.”

On the top bunk, Lu Yuan quietly opened his eyes, his gaze filled with deep reluctance.
