Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

The Luoxia Mountain Shelter in B City.
Built into the mountainside, the shelter’s main structure was a massive cavern, with numerous side tunnels branching off. During construction, designers expanded these side tunnels into the main cavern and reinforced them, ultimately creating a base with a total area of 100,000 square meters, capable of housing 6,000 residents.
The base was divided into three levels: upper, middle, and lower. The first level, located underground, connected to an underground river and housed a complete water purification system, the source of all the base’s water.
Adjacent to the water purification system were the survivor dormitories, 500 rooms in total, each approximately 20 square meters in size. Ten people shared each room, with a communal washroom serving every ten dormitories. These rooms had previously served as warehouses, storing all the base’s supplies.
The second level connected to the main entrance, where a massive, automatic lift gate stood—an extremely thick and heavy structure capable of easily withstanding mountain floods, mudslides, and even explosive shockwaves.
This level served as the base’s work area. After entering the cave, all survivor information was registered in the System. Based on their skills and aptitudes, survivors were assigned to appropriate jobs such as mechanical processing, sewing, farming, or kitchen duty. The cafeteria and parking lot were also located here.
The third level, situated at the mountain’s summit, was semi-open and used for installing solar panels and cultivating crops.
A separate isolation layer was constructed between the third and second levels. In the event of extreme weather, activating this layer would protect the two lower levels from any impact.
The base also featured a comprehensive air filtration and temperature control system. When activated, this system allowed the inhabitants to live normally regardless of external conditions.
A flat road led from the cave entrance to the mountain’s foot, with guard posts stationed at intervals to defend against zombie hordes.
The survivors had acquired a diverse range of vehicles: off-road vehicles for patrols, large trucks for transporting supplies, and even emergency helicopters and speedboats.
In short, this was a shelter that had required immense investment and effort to build, yet it still possessed one insurmountable weakness: weapons.
Before Doomsday, it had been extremely difficult for ordinary people to obtain decent firearms. Even with the Earth Players pooling their connections and resources, they had only managed to acquire some low-end models.
After arriving in this world, the lack of weapons became Kam’s greatest concern. Fortunately, the base had skilled personnel and blueprints that allowed them to manufacture firearms themselves.
Kam dispatched ten teams to gather the necessary materials and tools from the outside world. Not long after the teams departed, one team returned with a “haul” that left him both disappointed and furious.
Zhang Chao lay on a medical bed, his body third-degree burned. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he denounced the two culprits.
“We found brass and beer in City A and planned to bring them back today, but two people ambushed us! They smashed through the supermarket door, let zombies in, and set it on fire! Everyone else died in the supermarket. I barely escaped with my life, and I fought my way back to deliver this message!”
A group of people stood around him, including several members of the Base Committee. The committee, consisting of Kam and five others, was composed of three Doomsday survivors and three Earth Players. All major decisions required their collective discussion and approval.
“Who were those two? Government agents?” Kam asked.
Zhang Chao shook his head. “I’m not sure, but I don’t think so. Their disguises looked like ordinary civilians, not military.”
“Eight of you, fully equipped—guns, vehicles, everything—and you were ambushed by two ordinary people?” Kam frowned.
Zhang Chao was speechless. But thinking of those two detestable figures, he decided to lie.
“Though their disguises were ordinary, their skills were extraordinary. I didn’t get a clear look at their faces, but one of them gave me a strong impression of Chu Feng.”
Hearing the name, Kam’s expression hardened.
“Are you sure?” His voice was firm. “I’ve been on missions with Chu Feng. I wouldn’t mistake that feeling.”
In truth, during that mission, they’d been split into teams A and B. He’d only glimpsed Chu Feng once while picking up weapons and hadn’t seen him since.
But that wasn’t the point.
Those two nearly killed him. He would make them die!
Kam fell silent for a moment, then abruptly turned and ordered, “Send him for treatment and notify all committee members to convene a meeting.”
Ten minutes later, six members of the Base Committee gathered in the conference room.
Gu Zhao sat to Kam’s left, having already heard about the incident before arriving.
“According to Zhang Chao’s report, one of the attackers is likely Chu Feng. He has disrupted the Base multiple times and caused the deaths of many of our comrades. Now that he has finally revealed himself, we must capture him.”
Kam turned to a middle-aged man on his right. “Guo Chang, you are Chu Feng’s mentor. The Base has never held you accountable for your failure to discipline him properly, but you are responsible for bringing him back. I will dispatch personnel to track down those two in the next few days. When we find them, you will be the one to confront him.”
Guo Chang lowered his eyes and murmured, “Chu Feng is already dead. Two years ago, we recovered fragments of his uniform and communicator from a killer whale’s stomach.”
Kam said, “Ever since Chu Feng escaped the Base, you’ve been using that excuse to placate everyone. But what’s the result? Remember that burrow the patrol team found near the warehouse last month? That was definitely Chu Feng’s hiding place!”
Guo Chang replied, “With temperatures that low, he couldn’t have survived without food and warm clothing.”
“Because he’s been impersonating missing persons to claim their supplies!” Kam slammed his fist on the table in anger. “What was the name of the person we investigated last time? Someone who’s been missing for years, yet their monthly supplies keep getting claimed!”
Someone nearby chimed in, “Lu Yuan.”
Gu Zhao, who had remained silent until now, felt his eyelid twitch.
“Exactly! If Chu Feng wasn’t impersonating him to claim supplies, how do you explain that?”
Guo Chang remained expressionless. “I’m responsible for the Base’s security. I’m not involved in supply distribution.”
Kam scoffed. “Now, someone has openly killed seven of our companions and stolen supplies. As the guard captain, aren’t you responsible for capturing him? Enough talk. In two days, you’ll lead the team out.”
No one else had any objections, and Guo Chang remained silent.
Kam was about to call the meeting to a close when Gu Zhao spoke up. “I’d like to go with Captain Guo.”
The group looked at him in confusion.
Kam, equally puzzled, asked, “What do you want to do there? It’s still very dangerous outside. You’re a management-type talent; you should stay at the Base.”
Gu Zhao remained composed. “I just remembered there are some things at home I didn’t bring. I’d like to take this opportunity to retrieve them. Captain Guo is experienced; traveling with him will be much safer.”
Kam pondered for a moment, then relented. “Alright, but make sure your work is properly handed over before you leave.”
Gu Zhao nodded. “Understood.” He turned to Guo Chang with a calm smile. “Captain Guo, I’ll be in your care on the journey.”
Guo Chang gave a faint grunt and walked out of the conference room.
