I Have a Post Apocalyptic Online Friend C18.1

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Chapter 18. Part 1

“What do we do now… Are we going to be trapped in this warehouse?”

If she’d known this would happen, she wouldn’t have been in such a hurry to load everything onto the truck. Now, all their hard work had just benefited someone else. Zhou An’an was so furious she wanted to bang her head against the wall.

Lu Yuan remained silent, his head bowed, his gaze dark and inscrutable.

“Who the hell were those people?!” Zhou An’an recalled their faces, grinding her teeth in frustration.

“Survivors from the doomsday world,” Lu Yuan said in a low voice.

Zhou An’an gasped. “Then don’t you know them? Why would they steal our truck?”

He didn’t answer, just shook his head.

She couldn’t tell if he meant he didn’t know them or if he didn’t know why they’d stolen the truck.

“Gu Zhao said their base is on a mountain not far from City A. Do you think they took the bus back there? Gu Zhao put a lot of effort into building that base, so he should have some influence…”

Zhou An’an wanted to suggest asking Gu Zhao for help to get the truck back, but she swallowed the words.

Gu Zhao had repeatedly invited her to join the base, and she’d refused every time. Asking for his help now would be shamelessly thick-skinned.

Lu Yuan clearly guessed her unspoken thoughts. He raised his head and said coldly, “We’ll take back what they stole, the same way they took it. We don’t need to bother anyone else.”

“You’re going to steal the truck back?”

Zhou An’an was stunned. “But we can’t even get out of here.”

The warehouse was surrounded by zombies, relentlessly pounding on the doors. They had no vehicle, no guns—going out empty-handed was a death sentence.

Lu Yuan pointed to the rear right. “We’ll leave through the back door and take that vehicle.”

Zhou An’an looked over. It was a small delivery truck, barely a quarter the size of the bus, with a flimsy-looking frame.

“Isn’t that too dangerous?”

Lu Yuan’s tone was firm. “If you’re not confident, I’ll drive. You can watch our surroundings.”

“But even if we find them, how do we get the truck back?”

They were clearly outnumbered, and more importantly, the other group had guns.

No matter how skilled Lu Yuan was, he couldn’t withstand a bullet.

It was too risky.

Standing amidst the scattered cardboard boxes, Lu Yuan pondered for a moment, then patted a large box. “With this.”

Zhou An’an walked over and saw it was a box of barbecue charcoal they had unpacked yesterday. The box was marked “50 kg” and had likely been purchased by a barbecue restaurant.

“You mean… setting a fire?”

Lu Yuan grunted in agreement, opened the rear doors of the truck’s cargo bed, and hoisted the charcoal inside.

Zhou An’an went to help. Besides the charcoal, they also loaded many empty boxes, stuffing the entire cargo area to the brim.

“Get in. Let’s go.”

Lu Yuan finished speaking and sat in the driver’s seat, but Zhou An’an pulled him out.

He looked at her, puzzled.

Zhou An’an said, “Let me drive. I’m no good at fighting zombies, but driving is the one thing I can do.”

She wanted to contribute in any way she could, not be a burden to him.

A determined light shone in Zhou An’an’s clear eyes.

Lu Yuan paused, then turned and walked to the passenger seat. After settling in, he suddenly said, “It feels good to have a partner.”

*So can I make him feel that way too?*

A sense of responsibility she had never felt before welled up inside her.

“Me too. Let’s go!”

The small delivery truck drove out the back door, maneuvered around the dense horde of zombies, and reached the main road.

Zhou An’an had worried it would be a hassle to track down the other group, but once they were on the road, she breathed a sigh of relief.

Those people had guns, and to them, zombies were just shooting targets. They opened fire immediately whenever any got close.

So, all they had to do was follow the trail of corpses.

Because the other group had already cleared a wave of zombies, the number of undead along the route was noticeably lower, making it much easier for Zhou An’an and Lu Yuan to advance.

Half an hour later, the small truck arrived outside a large supermarket. The nearby zombies had been almost completely wiped out. Zhou An’an couldn’t help but remark, “Against modern weapons, zombies really aren’t much of a threat…”

As she spoke, she spotted the bus parked at the entrance.

Besides their bus, there were several modified off-road vehicles and a distinctively shaped camouflage off-road RV.

The massive triangular logo on the RV’s front immediately brought its name to Zhou An’an’s mind—Unimog.

She knew the base model alone cost around three million yuan. This one was clearly modified, and with the customization costs, the total price was likely over five million.

The Unimog was at least half the size of the bus, but it far surpassed the modified bus in every other aspect, with superior configurations across the board.

Especially the chassis. Limited by its design, the bus had a ground clearance of only about twenty centimeters and standard-sized tires. This severely limited the terrain it could handle; it could barely drive on anything but flat roads and would likely get stuck on even a slightly steep dirt road.

The Unimog’s chassis, however, had twice the ground clearance of the bus, and its wheels were much larger. Besides being unable to fly, it could handle virtually any terrain. Its wading depth even reached 1.2 meters—in some ways, it could almost function as a boat.

Just as eye-catching as the logo was the massive fuel tank on the vehicle’s underside.

“If that tank were full, it could probably go over two thousand kilometers…” Zhou An’an clicked her tongue.

Lu Yuan, also studying the tank, shook his head. “Look over there. It has dual tanks. Fully fueled, it could travel four thousand kilometers.”

Four thousand kilometers!

They were only a little over two thousand kilometers from the desert. With this vehicle, they wouldn’t have to worry about fuel at all.

They exchanged a look, both seeing the same thought in each other’s eyes: If those people could steal their bus, they could steal their Unimog.

It was an eye for an eye.

“Ready to start?” Zhou An’an’s hands on the steering wheel twitched with anticipation.

Lu Yuan raised an eyebrow. “You’re not scared?”

“Even if I am, we have to try. You said so yourself.”

A smile touched his lips. He silently observed the situation outside the supermarket, searching for the perfect opportunity. After a few minutes, he said, “Stick to the plan. Let’s begin.”

Zhou An’an nodded, turned the truck around, and drove away from the supermarket.
