What malicious intent could NPCs possibly have? C4.2

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Chp4. part2

Room 201 was now packed full because a huge shark was crammed into the cramped space.

The shark was half-buried in the bed, its eyes fierce, its massive, blood-red mouth, almost half a person’s height, opening and closing, filled with countless sharp teeth.

However, because there was no water and the room was too small, its hindquarters were embedded in the wall, making it unable to move at all, rendering its ferocity somewhat silly.

Room 201 was occupied by the young woman and the crying little boy. The young woman was hiding in the corner furthest from the shark, her arm around the boy, gently patting him to comfort him.

The boy stared at the giant shark in terror, seemingly terrified.

The great white shark, seeing more people approaching, thrashed wildly, as if trying to bite someone, but its size limited its reach.

“There’s a pretty famous old shark movie,” the young woman said, “I’ve seen it, and the shark in it is just like this.”

Since there was no immediate danger, Pei Han didn’t attack, instead examining the large creature that had suddenly appeared with his axe.

The shark, annoyed by his examination, bared its teeth fiercely at him.

After studying it for a while, Pei Han suddenly swung his arm.

So fast the shark didn’t even have time to react, Pei Han already held a shark’s sharp tooth in his hand.

Shark: ???

The boy was so surprised he forgot to cry.

Ning Ge paused, thinking, Is this guy a dentist by profession? He’s so efficient at pulling teeth!

Pei Han examined the tooth, explaining, “Sharks replace many teeth every year. This one was loose, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to pull.”

Shark: “…”

Pei Han turned around and gently tossed the shark tooth in his hand.

The shark tooth arced through the air and landed in the little boy’s arms, which he instinctively caught.

“Here, keep it as a souvenir,” Pei Han said. “Add a train and a chain, it should look quite nice.”

The little boy, holding the shark tooth and looking at the large shark that Pei Han had soured over pulling its teeth, gradually calmed down and stopped crying.

Pei Han casually asked Ning Ge and the others, “Do you want it?”

Shark: ???

Shark: What’s the point of selling someone else’s tooth like this?

The young woman shook her head, and Ning Ge also said, “No, let it keep biting people.”

Ning Ge wasn’t interested in the tooth, she just stared at the large shark, thinking, “Owen is wrong.”

It wasn’t a chain reaction at all, because the poster in room 203 didn’t feature a shark.

Moreover, Ning Ge knew that none of the posters in any of those five rooms featured a shark. And not just those five, but all the posters in the hotel didn’t feature a shark.

Ning Ge hadn’t seen many horror movies, so maybe there were sharks in the films that weren’t shown on the posters?

Pei Han was clearly thinking about this too.

He said, “Since the sharks have appeared, I’ll go check the poster in room 203.”

He returned to room 203, lifted the newspaper on the wall, and gave a soft “Hmm?” through his nose.

Ning Ge asked knowingly, “What’s down there?”

Pei Han simply lifted the newspaper and showed her the woman in white on the poster. “It’s not a shark. The chain reaction theory doesn’t work.”

Four rounds had passed, and still hadn’t found a pattern to the monsters’ appearances.

Pei Han frowned. “We absolutely must find a pattern. I reckon we can only end the mission after finding a pattern. Besides, many of the quests in this instance are clues that can help us find our anchor points.”

That’s why Pei Han was so eager to uncover the underlying logic of these posters and the monsters’ appearances.

Now, not only were they clueless about the anchor points, but they were also completely baffled by the current quest.

The “break” time ended quickly, and everyone was free to move around.

The people in rooms 204 and 205, being farther away, didn’t know what had happened in room 201, but they all ran over to see.

But as soon as the countdown reached zero, the shark vanished without a trace, leaving only a pool of salty, dripping seawater.

The shark tooth in the boy’s hand was still there, white and shiny, indeed beautiful.

The young woman wondered, “Why didn’t the tooth turn to ash?”

The little boy finally spoke, whispering, “Because Brother Pei didn’t kill the shark, it didn’t die. So will it reappear next time?”

No one knew.

When Owen arrived, Pei Han patted him on the shoulder.

“I checked. The poster for 203 isn’t a shark. Your chain reaction theory isn’t quite right.”

“Not a shark?” Owen was a little surprised, raising an eyebrow. “If it’s not a chain reaction, what would the pattern be?”

Green hair had already given up hope that Pei Han would randomly peel off the newspaper and didn’t dare ask what was on the poster for 203. He chimed in, “Maybe there’s no pattern, it’s just—random stuff?”

“In my experience, it’s definitely not random stuff,” Pei Han said.

The fifth round of “rest” began.

Ning Ge stared at the poster on the wall, thinking: Pei Han peeled off the newspaper again. Could it be that the woman in white really appears this time?

Just as she was thinking this, she caught a glimpse out of the corner of her eye of a figure slowly emerging from where the Ugly Duckling had appeared last time.

Speak of the devil, and she appears.

Pei Han saw it too and immediately grabbed an axe.

However, the woman just stood there, not moving.

She didn’t look at Pei Han beside her, but stared intently at Ning Ge sitting opposite her with her deep eyes.

Who’s afraid of who?

Ning Ge had just been locked in a staring contest with Pei Han, interrupted before she could even win. Now it was time for a fresh start with someone else.

She stared at Ning Ge, and Ning Ge stared back. She didn’t look away, and Ning Ge didn’t look away either.

The two women, one dressed in red, the other in white, with the same black hair and the same black eyes, faced each other in silence, their gazes filled with unspoken understanding and tender affection.

The ignored Pei Han, wielding his axe: “…”

This woman in white was completely different from the others. Standing by the wall, she showed no intention of attacking.

Ning Ge hadn’t seen her films before and was a little puzzled.

While intently competing with the woman in white, she asked Pei Han, “She has no weapon, and her arms are about as thin as mine. How can she kill someone? Just by scaring them? Like a ghost to scare them to death?”

The woman in white: “…”

Just as Pei Han was about to speak, Ning Ge realised: Could she be—

killing with telekinesis?

The thought had barely formed when Ning Ge’s neck suddenly tightened.

It felt as if an invisible hand had grabbed her, making it hard to breathe. At the same time, her heart felt as if it were being squeezed tightly.

Pei Han immediately noticed Ning Ge’s abnormality and moved instantly, swinging his axe straight at the woman in white’s head.

But the axe passed right through her, as if she were just a phantom.

Ning Ge’s vision blurred, and she collapsed to the ground, her mind racing:

How do I deal with this?

This is a balanced instance, it won’t be designed to be a dead end. If something appears that even an axe can’t cut, there must be another solution.

The solution won’t be too far off.
While Ning Ge quickly scanned her surroundings, Pei Han had already shown her the solution.
