What malicious intent could NPCs possibly have? C3.2

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Chp3. part2

The axe could go to Pei Han. Not only because he was some seemingly powerful Alpha, but also because when the neighbours were screaming and howling next door, he was the first to break through the wall.

He helped them, so he would help others.

Everyone’s eyes widened when they saw the axe.

“Where did you find such a good thing?” Owen asked.

“I saw it on the way upstairs,” Ning Ge answered vaguely.

Pei Han looked down at the axe, then glanced at Ning Ge before reaching out to take it.

Ning Ge held onto the axe handle tightly, confirming with him, “If anything happens in any room, you’ll go help, right?”

Pei Han narrowed his eyes.

“Okay,” he said.

He took the axe, weighed it in his hand, and twirled it a few times, as if it were a large toy.

The axe was the only weapon on the scene, and green-hair guy eyes kept drifting upwards.

Owen saw through it. “He’s Alpha, it’s most suitable for him. You want to compete with an Alpha?”

The word “Alpha” seemed to have a magical power, the green-hair was unwilling, but he still kept quiet.

Free time was almost over, and everyone went back to their rooms.

As Ning Ge stepped outside, she suddenly realised that the two dead bodies on the ground were gone, vanished without a trace, just like the girl in the convenience store that morning—disappeared completely, as if they had never existed.

The twenty-minute “break” began again.

The second round started.

This time, everyone was terrified, huddled in corners, trying to stay as far away from the posters on the wall as possible.

This time it was much faster than before. Less than a minute after the timer started, someone began screaming incoherently, desperately calling for help.

Pei Han grabbed a fire axe, crossed the wall of room 204 next door, and Ning Ge followed.

The Sales clerk in 204 and Owen were both fine, the screams were coming from the more distant room 205.

Before the two even reached the opening, they saw the green-haired guy and the granny-hair guy from 205 crawling towards them.

The man with the green hair was clearly injured, a large gash on his palm was dripping blood. Ignoring his hand, he scrambled through the hole in the wall, crawling on all fours.

Their fear stemmed from the fact that a third person was following them.

This third person, close behind, also peered out from the hole.

He wore a black robe, a hood, and an exaggerated white mask covering his face—exactly like the one in the poster.

Most importantly, he held a gleaming, foot-long knife.

The strange creature from the poster had actually appeared. This time, even Ning Ge felt a chill run down her spine.

Pei Han stepped forward, and as the man in the black robe only peeked out from behind him, he swiftly and decisively brought the man down with his axe.

The attack was ruthless and fast, ending the black-robed man’s life in an instant.

The green-haired man looked behind him in panic, his face full of astonishment. “Can this thing really be killed?”

The Sales clerk whispered, “It seems pretty easy to kill.”

“Easy to kill my foot,” the green-haired man said. “I just kicked it, it was rock hard, like a stone. Go ask around, Sun San from Changxing Street, when he kicks someone, every single one of them isn’t…”

He stopped mid-sentence, realising it was pointless, and looked at Pei Han with awe.

Pei Han killed the thing as easily as a skilled worker chopping a radish.

Pei Han’s face was expressionless, he wiped his soiled axe on the white sheet beside him.

“That’s interesting.” Owen came over and kicked the motionless black-robed figure, sincerely remarking, “Hmm, it’s actually quite tough.”

Granny-grey flattered, “Not as tough as Brother Pei.”

Owen was surprised: “Huh? How do you know it’s tough?”

A short while later, the tough black-robed figure softened, gradually turning into black ash and disappearing.

For the next ten minutes or so, nothing happened at all, everyone safely made it to break time.

Everyone immediately and automatically gathered in room 203, where Ning Ge and the group were.

Green-haired pondered, “Let me tell you, that layer of newspaper wasn’t just ordinary newspaper. It was a magical seal made by a master. The people in 202 carelessly broke the seal and released the monster.”

Ning Ge thought. Seal my foot! That lousy newspaper was something I, this master, just slapped on.

While the memory of slapping a newspaper might be fake, created by the system in Ning Ge’s mind, Ning Ge felt the dungeon’s plot should be logically consistent.

There’s no reason to implant a memory of herself randomly pasting newspapers into this NPC’s mind, only to discover that the newspapers were the work of some metaphysical master.

This doesn’t make sense.

“Now that we’ve killed the monster, as long as we don’t impulsively tear up the newspapers again, we’ll probably be fine.”

Pei Han glanced at him coldly and asked a question.

“If the monster was released by 202 tearing up the newspapers, why did it appear in your 205 instead of 202 when it appeared a second time? What’s the reason?”

“Green-hair was speechless.

According to him, he and Granny-grey were sitting and chatting when the masked man suddenly appeared out of nowhere, chasing and stabbing people with a knife.”

After a long pause, green-hair finally said, “Maybe it’s because the people in 202 are gone, so it automatically went to other rooms with living people?”

Pei Han pressed, “Then why didn’t it go to 201, 203, or 204? Why did it choose 205? Why are you special?”

Green hair couldn’t answer, only saying, “It…it just chose randomly?”

That made sense, but it was still a bit forced.

Pei Han fell silent, leaning against the wall in thought. After a long while, he said, “I’ll go check 205.”

Ning Ge volunteered, “I’ll go with you.”

Green-hair’s and Granny-grey’s room 205 looked no different from the other rooms—the same structure, the same furniture, and the same newspaper pasted on the headboard.

Pei Han walked around the room, finally stopping in front of the newspaper.

He climbed onto the bed, stood on it, and carefully examined the newspaper along its edge.

“They haven’t opened it,” he said.

Green-hair and his roommate weren’t lying, they really hadn’t touched the newspapers, and the entire perimeter of the newspapers was sealed correctly.
