Rebellious Game C25.1

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Chp25. part1

(Five or Six Different Ways to Die)

“Since everyone’s here, let’s go grab something to eat,” Lin Qin said, pretending nothing had happened.

Yun Xin, still holding her suitcase, looked up with an innocent expression. “I just got fired.”

“Triple salary! Rehire her immediately!” Lin Qin declared without hesitation.

Yun Xin readily agreed.

However, before boarding the plane, the group consisted of Miss Secretary, the young master of a wealthy family, two black-suited bodyguards, and a young male colleague—a total of five people. Now, only four stood there.

“Where’s the fifth person?” Yun Xin asked, puzzled.

Miss Secretary, her demeanor noticeably warmer than before, answered quickly, “Brother Qiu hit his head and is unconscious. He’s already been taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment.”

Work-related injury.

Yun Xin sighed. This is the downside of being a bodyguard—you have to follow your employer everywhere. Whether it’s heaven or the ocean, if the employer’s interested, you have to follow, no matter how dangerous.

Noticing a faint wound on Miss Secretary’s arm, Yun Xin asked, “Are you hurt? Shouldn’t you get it bandaged at the hospital?”

Miss Secretary smiled awkwardly and glanced at her boss before remaining silent.

She would have liked to go to the hospital to get her minor injury treated, as it was inconvenient to move with it. But her clueless boss, having escaped unscathed himself, assumed everyone else was fine and made no mention of seeking medical attention.

Miss Secretary even thought to herself, Does the Boss only consider Brother Qiu, who was lying there with his eyes closed, rigid and motionless, and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance, to be truly injured?

In reality, Lin Qin hadn’t even noticed.

When Yun Xin brought it up, he realized, and told Miss Secretary to go get bandaged first and rejoin them once she was done.

Miss Secretary gave Yun Xin a grateful glance and hurried away.

The remaining four found a coffee shop to sit down.

It must be said, the Federation’s coffee shops were quite impressive. They didn’t just sell coffee, but also cakes. And not just cakes, but also bento boxes.

Yun Xin ordered a drink and a deluxe bento box, then settled down to eat with relish… after all, the Boss was paying.

Lin Qin, Brother Zhao, and Lu Lei sat down in silence.

Brother Zhao, a burly man with a rugged face, looked like the type who spoke little and worked much.

Lu Lei wore a thoughtful expression, as if deep in thought.

Lin Qin, the Boss, took a sip of his coffee and felt slightly calmer. Suddenly remembering something, his expression changed drastically. He gulped down several mouthfuls, draining half the cup in an instant.

Yun Xin suspected he was treating the coffee like alcohol.

“The plane had an incident and couldn’t take off on time. Will we miss that crucial meeting?”

Yun Xin asked and guessed, wondering what multi-billion dollar deal could have made him insist on boarding the plane despite her warnings, even refusing to wait for the next flight.

Hearing this, Lin Qin’s expression changed again.

He raised his wrist to check his watch and immediately exclaimed, “Oh no! We’re going to miss the concert!”

Lin Qin stood up, ready to rush out, but seeing the pale faces of the bodyguards and Lu Lei, and noticing two employees were missing, he sighed and sat back down.

Yun Xin blinked. If she heard correctly, her boss had just mentioned a “concert”?

Lin Qin met her gaze, realizing he’d slipped up and feeling a bit awkward. He didn’t want to explain, but with Miss Secretary absent, the remaining bodyguards and Lu Lei weren’t the type to volunteer information. Helplessly, he said, “Kailin the superstar’s concert, live, front row! Everyone has tickets!”

Yun Xin: So it really was a personal trip, a fan-chasing trip.

But…

“You’re skipping work to go to a concert?” she asked, puzzled.

Lin Qin scoffed, “What’s so great about work? Kailin’s concerts happen only once every few years!”

“During the wars between nations, you couldn’t even go if you wanted to. Now that the victors have unified the defeated nations into a single Federation, we’re all one family. Finally, we can hear her live!”

“Kailin is already over 50. How many more tours can she possibly do? Every concert is one less we’ll ever hear!” Lin Qin’s voice grew increasingly animated, and he completely abandoned any pretense of self-control.

“Why do all the employees have to go to the concert just because I’m going?” Yun Xin asked, puzzled.

Lin Qin’s tone deepened. “It’s an employee benefit.”

Yun Xin raised her hand. “Can I opt out?”

This wasn’t exactly the kind of benefit she wanted.

Lin Qin was about to glare at her, but remembering the recent plane crash, he deflated. “No. You must accompany the Boss on this business trip—to go crazy for love with me, to bang our heads against the walls for our idol.”

Good grief.

Yun Xin finally understood. This was a fan company—its main business was idol worship, with design as a side hustle, and the Boss himself was the leading fan.

Wait a minute!

Yun Xin looked at her Boss, her expression slightly awkward. “The merchandise our company designs… it’s not celebrity merchandise, is it?”

“Of course!” Lin Qin lifted his chin proudly. “Our designs are legendary! Every limited edition batch sells out instantly—our servers even crash from the sheer number of buyers.”

“You seem to have plenty of money, Boss. Why not just buy a helicopter?” Yun Xin asked curiously. “Wouldn’t that be more convenient?”

Lin Qin’s spirited tone faltered.

Brother Zhao, the black-clad bodyguard, turned to him. “Because his card’s been frozen.”

Those few words carried a wealth of information.

Lin Qin bristled with indignation. “How can a man of honor bend his knee for money?”

Brother Zhao replied dryly, “If we didn’t bend our knees, who would come out to work?”

Lin Qin grew even more furious. “Whose side are you on? Who are you helping?”

Brother Zhao gazed at the sky. “Your family pays my salary. Whoever pays me, I stand with them.”

Lin Qin: “……”

He’d almost forgotten—the bodyguard was paid by his family. Yun Xin was only here to protect his personal safety.

Lin Qin picked up his coffee, stiffly changing the subject. “Right, what’s your name? How long has it been since you graduated?”

“Yun Xin. A little over a year,” she replied.

“Good eyes, knowing how to apply to our company.” Lin Qin wasn’t sure if he was praising Yun Xin or himself.

Yun Xin felt a twinge of guilt.

Her previous boss had seen over a decade of hard work destroyed overnight, nearly plunging into debt.

The one before that was still alive, but his customer base had dwindled to a single remaining client.

The one before that had gone to prison to work on a sewing machine and lost the entire building.

And the one before that had become a sugar figurine, forever preserved in the memories of his employees.

If he told his current boss about such a monumental achievement, he wondered if the boss would still be able to laugh.

Lin Qin’s intuition was clearly lacking. Not only could he still laugh, but he laughed even more brightly.

“It’s okay if we miss this one. It’s a tour, after all—we can just go to the next show!”

Nearly three hours later, Miss Secretary rushed back, her wound bandaged.

“Brother Qiu had bad luck. The injury is in a sensitive spot. The doctor said he needs to stay in the hospital for observation.”

Lin Qin nodded. “Everyone’s here. Let’s go.”

Miss Secretary paused. “Where are we going?”

“To the concert!” Lin Qin insisted, unwilling to give up. “I just checked—it starts at 7, and they don’t let people in an hour after the start. If we hurry, we’ll only be 20 to 30 minutes late.”

“Then… should we still take the plane?” As she spoke, Miss Secretary remained rooted to the spot, clearly reluctant to buy plane tickets.

Lin Qin couldn’t stand hearing the word “plane” right now. “No, this time we’ll take the train.”

Instantly, Miss Secretary regained her usual professional demeanor. She nodded. “Alright, I’ll buy the tickets online right away.”

At the train station waiting room, Lin Qin noticed that everyone’s eyes kept glancing at Yun Xin, some subtly, others more openly.
