Rebellious Game C12.1

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Chp12. part1

On the way, Wu Peng had tried to dissuade Yun Xin. “Even if you ask the Dean, she might not tell us the truth. Shouldn’t we go back and think of a better approach?”

Yun Xin’s response was curt: “If you can’t get her to talk, it’s because your posture is wrong.”

Wu Peng had been puzzled. How could posture affect questioning? He tried to imagine it, but his imagination failed him. His mental faculties were clearly lacking.

Following Yun Xin into the Dean’s office, Wu Peng finally understood the correct posture for questioning. Yun Xin had her left hand clamped around the Dean’s neck, slamming her against the wall with her feet dangling in the air.

In that position, what secrets could remain hidden?

Wu Peng couldn’t help but marvel.

Pinned against the wall, the Dean’s eyes rolled back as she choked, yet she still managed to gasp, “You’re not like the files said. They only mentioned your ability to sense danger, not your incredible strength and combat skills.”

Yun Xin retorted, “Not everyone who gains power flaunts it. I only use my abilities when necessary, like now.”

“What’s your strength level? 4? 5? Or has it already surpassed 6?” the Dean asked, her curiosity piqued.

Yun Xin tightened her grip. “I’m the one asking questions here, not the other way around. Remember your place.”

The Dean gasped for air, struggling to speak. “I… can’t breathe.”

Yun Xin eased her grip slightly, pressing her interrogation. “Tell me, how did you find us?”

The Dean glanced at Wu Peng. “Strength 0.9, Agility 0.9, Constitution 0.9, Spirit 1.7.”

“Huh?” Wu Peng looked utterly bewildered.

Yun Xin, however, began to grasp the situation.

The Dean turned to Yun Xin, a knowing smile spreading across her face. “You… I can’t see through you. But my Spirit is 4.7, and my superpower is reconnaissance. I can discern the four-dimensional attributes of anyone with a Spirit level lower than mine.”

Damn this superpower! Yun Xin cursed inwardly.

It was the same last time. She had almost smoothed over her lie when Tong Jia awakened her superpower and immediately sensed something was off.

And now this. Even without fully investigating, just because she couldn’t see through her, she knew she was suspicious.

How am I supposed to live like this? Yun Xin felt a flicker of despair.

“What are you two talking about?” Wu Peng remained completely clueless.

“Let me tell you,” the Dean said, abruptly changing her tone, “I know about your incident.”

“One day, you insisted that the sculpture outside the shopping mall was about to fall. You blocked passersby, preventing them from walking under it. The mall staff, thinking you were causing trouble and deliberately disrupting their business, called the police. You were taken away, and the commotion subsided. Three hours later, the sculpture actually fell, crushing seven pedestrians – five died, two were injured.”

“How did you find out about that?” Wu Peng asked, his heart pounding with dread, feeling as exposed as if his skin had been peeled off, standing naked under the glaring sun.

“I’m a serving officer at the police station,” the Dean explained. “All sorts of bizarre reports eventually end up on my desk. I then filter them and personally meet with the individuals involved. Whether someone possesses special abilities – I can tell with a single glance from a distance.”

“Impossible!” Wu Peng retorted, refusing to believe it. “How could the police engage in such underhanded dealings, restricting citizens’ personal freedom?”

“There was no wrongdoing. Everything happens for a reason, though I can’t tell you the details,” the Dean sighed softly. “Life, after all, requires an ‘A’ to succeed.”

“Bullshit!” Wu Peng cursed, his anger boiling over. “Why does it have to be an A? What about B, C, D, E, F, and G? Are they supposed to just die? What kind of police are you, discriminating like this? I’m telling you, all people are born equal! Even if they don’t have talent and can’t get an A, they still have the right to live in this world!”

This was the kind of stubborn fool who completely missed the point.

Yun Xin murmured, “Because only those who achieve an A or higher can learn the truth about the world.”

“The rest of this conversation isn’t something he should hear,” the Dean told Yun Xin. “The staff at the Nursing Home are all my colleagues. No one will harm him.”

“Maybe not…” Wu Peng said timidly, feeling like Yun Xin was the only one on his side.

“Go,” Yun Xin reassured him. “If anything happens to you, I’ll definitely avenge you.”

Wu Peng initially felt relieved, but the more he thought about it, the more uneasy he became. By the time his face was a mask of confusion, he had already been hastily escorted away by other bodyguards who had rushed in.

The Dean’s office door closed again, leaving only the Dean and Yun Xin in the room.

“Put your hand down,” the Dean said, trying to ease the tension. “Isn’t it tiring to keep choking me like this? If you want, I can show you my police badge.”

Yun Xin released her grip. “Choking you was just a means to make you tell the truth. If you’re willing to talk, I won’t need to do it.”

The Dean finally slid down from the wall, rubbing her bruised neck. She shoved her hands into her pockets and asked Yun Xin, “What do you want to know?”

“Everything,” Yun Xin replied bluntly. “How did you find out about me? What do you know? What are your intentions for bringing me here?”

“My name is Bai Wei, I’m thirty-three years old, and I’m an ordinary police officer… At least, that’s how it was before I defused the bomb in the shopping mall and saved over twenty lives.” Dean Bai Wei gestured for Yun Xin to sit down and talk.

“Surviving an accident and directly saving ten or more lives usually earns you an A-rank. But getting an A-rank isn’t something to brag about — it’s the beginning of a nightmare.”

“When I saw the panel, I realized the gravity of the situation and wanted to report it to my superiors.”

Here, she emphasized, “I saw the annotations, but I believed all difficulties could be overcome. The crucial thing was to report to my superiors and then inform everyone. Unfortunately, three days after I reported, my superior was caught in an accident and died trying to save others.”

“After that, we tried various approaches, replacing ‘Evolution Game’ with ‘Unspeakable Existence’ and conveying the objective reality that ‘humanity faces a grave crisis’ while avoiding direct mention of the ‘Evolution Game’ as much as possible.”

“Since we never figured out how to inform and warn the uninformed masses without harming them, we began experiments with government approval.”

“Are you telling me the entire Nursing Home is a laboratory? The elderly here were told about the ‘Evolution Game,’ which is why they frequently encounter accidents?” Yun Xin was speechless. “Have all the death row inmates been used up? Why are you experimenting on ordinary citizens?”

“How do you know they haven’t?” Bai Wei countered. “This is the 15th experiment. All the previous ones failed.”

Yun Xin was speechless.

For a moment, she wanted to ask what was wrong with this world. It was one thing for bosses to become a rare commodity, but how had death row inmates become scarce too?

Beside her, Bai Wei continued, “Food poisoning, gas leaks and explosions, fires, earthquakes… Once people are informed about the ‘Evolution Game,’ inexplicable accidents always seem to occur, claiming their lives.”

“To solve this problem, I’ve been searching for individuals with precognitive abilities.”

“In fact, five people were invited this time, but only you and Wu Peng came.”

“Research shows that women have a special advantage in the ‘Spirit’ attribute, which is commonly referred to as ‘women generally possessing a keen sixth sense.’ However, when ‘Spirit’ is low, the sixth sense may react, but the individual may not understand what it’s urging them to do.”

“As the ‘Spirit’ attribute increases, a vague, urgent feeling to act will arise. Once you break through 3 and officially gain superpowers, you’ll understand more clearly what that feeling signifies and how to use your abilities.”

“Strength, Agility, and Constitution follow the same principle. By the way, the two bodyguards outside — one with Strength exceeding 3 and the other with Constitution exceeding 3 — were both taken down by you.”

Yun Xin pretended not to hear. “After all this talk, you still haven’t told me why you brought Wu Peng and me here.”
