Rebellious Game C4.1

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Chp4. part1

A middle-aged man attempted suicide to defraud insurance. The driver tried to evade him, but this only led to a more serious traffic accident. The whole incident was so convoluted and bizarre that it drew widespread condemnation online.

“Ignorance is truly terrifying.”

“The one who wanted to die didn’t, and the one who didn’t want to die died in a car accident. God is truly blind.”

“What a tragedy!”

Amidst the condemnation, Yun Xin gradually adapted to the rhythm of her new job.

That day, she had just arrived at the hotel and changed into her work uniform when Tong Jia suddenly appeared and pulled her towards the stairwell.

Yun Xin obediently followed and only asked when they were alone, “What’s wrong?”

Tong Jia looked somewhat nervous. She looked around to make sure they were alone before lowering her voice and asking, “After giving your statement at the police station that day, did you feel anything was off when you got home?”

“No,” Yun Xin shook her head.

Hearing this, Tong Jia was quite disappointed. Undeterred, she asked again, “Really not? Think about it carefully.”

“Everything was the same as usual,” Yun Xin replied affirmatively.

“Ha- ” Tong Jia’s expression shifted, finally letting out a sigh.

“Are you alright?” Yun Xin asked with concern.

Tong Jia said vaguely, “Something happened…something strange.”

“What’s strange?” Yun Xin asked.

Tong Jia really wanted to talk to someone, so she carefully began, “Last weekend, my friend went to run a marathon and invited me to join.”

“She said it wasn’t about finishing, it was about participation.”

“I thought, since the weather was so nice, it’d be good to get some exercise. And if something happens in the future, being fast is better than not being able to run.”

“And then, I finished the whole thing! I reached the finish line at the same time as my friend!”

Tong Jia looked like she’d seen a ghost. “That’s so strange. My friend loves sports and exercises outdoors all the time. I’m too lazy to go out on my days off, and I’ve never beaten her before. How did I catch up with her in terms of stamina?”

“Maybe she ran slower than usual?” Yun Xin offered a reasonable guess.

“Impossible,” Tong Jia said decisively. Marathons are timed. Because I was right behind her, she achieved her best time ever!”

There were some things Tong Jia kept to herself. Running faster and longer than usual was one thing, but finishing felt much easier than when she usually gave up halfway.

The fact that they both reached the finish line at the same time clearly indicated that something was wrong with her.

Yun Xin asked again, “Have you encountered anything unusual lately?”

Tong Jia rubbed her forehead. “The most unusual thing I’ve experienced recently is almost being hit by a car.”

“After surviving such an ordeal, does your physical fitness suddenly increase dramatically?” Yun Xin pondered. “I’ve never heard of that before.”

“I’ve only heard that some people unleash their potential after an accident, becoming incredibly strong or running exceptionally fast.”

“But once you’re out of danger, you can’t do that anymore.”

“But this morning when I went for a run, I was still running like the wind!” Tong Jia exclaimed in frustration, “It’s been several days since the car accident! Why haven’t I recovered yet?!”

The increased running speed didn’t make her happy, instead, it worried her.

Everything happening before her eyes was beyond her comprehension. She wouldn’t even want the improved physical abilities given to her for free, she just wanted to return to her original state.

“You’re asking me? I don’t know either,” Yun Xin said.

Tong Jia persisted, “You really didn’t notice anything unusual?”

“No,” Yun Xin answered with absolute certainty.

After thinking for a moment, Tong Jia guessed, “The manager said you’re strong. Could it be that you were always strong, and actually even stronger after the car accident, but you didn’t notice?”

Yun Xin paused, stunned.

Tong Jia continued, “Perhaps you were always a fast runner, so the improvement wasn’t obvious?”

At this point, she looked at Yun Xin expectantly, “After the car accident, did you run a marathon? Why don’t you try one?”

During her daze, the sound of men talking and the approach of footsteps came from not far away.

“I told you not to mess with it, but you wouldn’t listen.”

The other person retorted, “How was I supposed to know it was so aggressive!”

The first person added, “Now look what’s happened, you’ve been caught and have to get a rabies shot.”

The other person replied, “Why bother! It’s just a minor injury, a rinse and some medicine will do.”

Hearing someone approach, Tong Jia stopped talking. She quickly composed herself, adopting the professional demeanour of a working woman, and calmly asked, “What happened?”

The two people talking were servers Wang Ze and Zhao Zechen.

Seeing Tong Jia, Wang Ze’s heart skipped a beat. He stammered, “It’s nothing. We went to throw out the trash and saw a cat lying dead in a corner of the parking lot. I went over to check on it.”

“You just wanted to check on it? You went up and kicked it!” Zhao Zechen exposed him. “The cat was in pain and bit your ankle.”

“I told you to just let it go and chase the stray cat away, but you wouldn’t listen. You insisted on catching it to teach it a lesson. After all that trouble, you didn’t catch the cat, and I got a scratch too!”

Zhao Zechen broke down at this point, “Do you know how expensive rabies vaccines are?!”

For Zhao Zechen, it was a complete disaster. His colleague wouldn’t listen to advice and insisted on provoking the cat, resulting in him getting injured as well.

Wang Ze had tried to bluff his way out of it, but he was caught red-handed and immediately felt embarrassed. He said coldly, “Alright, you’re a grown man, calm down. Getting scratched by a cat is no big deal. Do you really need to go all the way to get a shot? Just rinse it with water.”

“Guess why doctors recommend rabies vaccinations for scratches from stray cats?” Zhao Zechen asked, answering his own question, “Because there have been cases where people were scratched or bitten by cats and didn’t pay attention, eventually contracting rabies and dying.”
