Rebellious Game C3.1

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Chp3. part1

New World Hotel

The “honey leak incident” initially attracted immense public attention.

After the report on the incident’s cause was released and the perpetrator was punished accordingly, attention immediately decreased by half.

A month later, apart from the victims and their families, few people actively recalled the horrific leak tragedy.

Yun Xin sent out numerous resumes and quickly landed a new job.

New World Hotel.

The manager gave a pep talk to the new employee, “As a server, you need to be meticulous and steady. You can’t deliver the wrong dish, and you can’t let your hand shake and spill soup on customers.”

The manager had his reasons for saying this.

The hotel has a speciality dish called braised goose in an iron pot. This dish, stewed until tender and flavorful, received widespread praise. However, it’s not only delicious but also incredibly heavy.

This is because the chef prepares it in a large iron pot. He insists that servers must carry the pot directly to the table to preserve its original flavour. Serving it in a bowl doesn’t capture the essence.

This makes things difficult for the servers.

Iron pots are already heavy, but carrying a large pot full of broth while passing the dish, without spilling any, is even more challenging.

How many people couldn’t endure this for months and bought train tickets to leave? It was simply too much to bear.

“Come on, everyone, give it a try.” The manager glanced at the only girl among the eight people, paused briefly, and then changed his tone, “Your name is Yun Xin, right? You go first.”

Yun Xin nodded, picked up the iron pot, walked steadily, and then reached the other stove, setting the pot down.

The manager stared, his eyes wide. Even seasoned employees who had worked as servers for years hadn’t moved like that so smoothly. His attitude warmed. “Have you done similar work before?”

Yun Xin shook her head, “No, I’m just very strong.”

Oh, natural superhuman strength! The manager looked at Yun Xin with delight, realising he had discovered a promising talent. This kind could stay at the hotel long-term.

“You guys give it a try.” He looked expectantly at the other seven people, waiting for new talent to emerge.

The first man walked over with his head held high, confidently lifting the iron pot. The next second, he stumbled and bent over. He gritted his teeth, squeezing out a few words, “This pot…why is it so heavy?”

The manager looked at him with displeasure. Of course! If it weren’t so heavy, would the others be complaining of sore arms every day, quitting after only a month or two? Would the position be perpetually understaffed? Would he need to recruit new people every month?

“If you can’t do it, then back off.”

“It’s okay, I can do it.” The man resolutely refused to admit that he was weaker than the women.

His expression turned ferocious, his muscles tensed, and he straightened his back instantly. Then, with a loud shout, he slammed the iron pot back onto the stove.

The next second, he looked at the manager, panting heavily, and earnestly stated, “I’ve thought about it, and this job might not be right for me.”

That’s not what you said during the interview. What happened to the hardworking, diligent young man you promised?

The manager, too lazy to expose him, waved his hand, “Just go.”

Then, he turned to the others, “If you can’t do it, say so early. Don’t force yourself. This isn’t a one- or two-day job, it’s a daily commitment. If you push yourself to the limit, the wages you earn won’t even cover medical expenses.”

The other six hesitated.

At that moment, a woman in her late twenties rushed in, “I’m in a hurry to get out, can I borrow a few people?”

Yun Xin looked over. The other person was wearing a hotel uniform with a name tag that read, “Purchasing Manager – Tong Jia.”

“Here ~ she will do,” the manager said casually, pointing to Yun Xin.

“Why is it a girl?” Tong Jia protested. She needed help carrying the groceries to the car. It was such a heavy workload, and she usually borrowed a man.

“She’s reliable!” the manager said seriously.

Handling an iron pot so steadily, she’d be good at anything else.

Tong Jia ignored him. “You, you, you, come with me.”

The purchasing manager didn’t refuse the manager’s request and selected Yun Xin. However, besides Yun Xin, she also selected two burly men who seemed easy to manage.

“I’ve told him so many times, tell me in advance if you need anything, tell me in advance! Every time it’s the last minute before he tells me. He just talks and talks, while I’m exhausted from running around!” Tong Jia kept grumbling the whole way, though it was unclear who she was complaining about.

After the driver stopped the car, she assigned tasks to the two labourers, then said to Yun Xin, “We have enough people, you can rest.”

Yun Xin realised what was going on. The other woman hadn’t directly refused the manager, but had turned around and chosen her own people.

What was this? Workplace savviness?

Since the other woman had said she didn’t need them, she didn’t want to force herself on her. Yun Xin found a place to rest.

It was a shop along the street. A delivery truck was parked in front of the shop, and the driver and two labourers, like diligent ants, were loading goods onto the truck one by one. Not far away, Tong Jia was intently checking the order slip.

Suddenly, Yun Xin felt a familiar flutter in her heart.

“I want milk tea, come with me.”

Tong Jia looked around, then asked uncertainly, “Are you talking to me?”

“Yes.” Yun Xin nodded.

Tong Jia was speechless.

Is she a middle school girl? Holding hands to go to the restroom, or going to the convenience store together? She’s an adult, a working professional, can’t she even buy milk tea alone?

“I don’t drink milk tea, I only drink coffee,” Tong Jia said.

“Then let’s go buy coffee first,” Yun Xin said, changing her mind.

Wasn’t her refusal obvious enough?

Tong Jia wanted to yell, but turning around, she saw the driver and labourer sweating slightly and panting heavily. She swallowed her words, “I’ll go with you.”

Truly, she didn’t particularly want coffee, but buying a few cups for the driver and labourer to soothe their throats would be nice.

“Let’s go,” Yun Xin said, taking the first step.
