Rebellious Game C20.2

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Chp20. part2

Seeing that the black mist and text on the children’s bodies had vanished, Yun Xin stepped aside and followed Zhu Lin upstairs.

“Brother Qiang, they said we can’t go swimming. What should we do now?” the little chubby boy asked dejectedly.

“Are you an idiot?” the tallest one said, watching them leave before lowering his voice. “We can just sneak out without them noticing.”

“But Sister Zhu Lin said she’d tell the parents…” Little Chubby looked troubled.

“Only cowards are afraid of their parents being told,” the tallest one scoffed. “If you don’t go, you’re a coward.”

The others erupted in laughter, teasing, “Coward! Coward!”

“I-I’m not!” Little Chubby’s face turned bright red. “Fine, I’ll go.”

“There are two types of rooms,” Zhu Lin said, turning on the faucet. “This one has no window but includes a private bathroom, a kitchen cabinet, and a small refrigerator—basically a mini-kitchen. The water is clean, and there haven’t been any power outage notices recently.”

“The washing machine is in the hallway; it’s shared. If you don’t want to use it, you can buy your own to put in your room.”

“The air conditioner is from the secondhand market. If it breaks, tell me right away, and I’ll have it repaired.”

“Water and electricity are prepaid. The meter runs as you use it, and the cost is deducted from your balance. Other than that, there’s nothing else. If you need furniture, you can add your own and take it with you when you move out.”

“There’s another type of room with a window, which gets more light and costs more per month. I didn’t show you because I figured you wouldn’t need it.”

Zhou Rui was very satisfied and politely asked the price.

Zhu Lin quoted a figure.

Zhou Rui did some quick calculations. The rent was only 200 more than his current place, but the quality of life would be vastly different.

Even though money was tight everywhere—with barely enough left for food and no extra cash for a better place—the thought of power outages, circuit breakers tripping, and dirty water gushing from the faucet made him realize he’d rather eat only two meals a day to escape that hellhole.

With this thought, Zhou Rui resolutely declared, “I’ll rent this place. Let’s sign the contract.”

Yun Xin added, “I’ll take one too, but it needs to have a window.”

“Alright, I’ll get the contracts…”

Before she could finish, a wail erupted from outside. “Help! Brother Qiang and the others are drowning! Someone save them!”

Zhu Lin recognized the voice—wasn’t that Little Chubby? She opened the window and shouted down, “Didn’t I tell you not to go swimming?!”

“B-Brother Qiang said we could sneak in if we weren’t caught…” Little Chubby replied, sobbing, his voice choked with fear and resentment.

Zhu Lin pressed her fingers to her forehead. These kids…

“Forget the contracts. Let’s go save them first,” Yun Xin said, already rushing down the stairs.

When they heard a child had drowned, several available adults immediately came out and asked Little Chubby to lead the way.

Little Chubby, still crying, ran ahead, pointing the way for the adults. “They’re over there!”

They saw five small figures struggling in the water, some gulping down mouthfuls of water.

The adults grew anxious.

A man who could swim stripped off his clothes and dove in to rescue them.

“Over there! Over there!” On the shore, people who couldn’t swim shouted directions wildly.

The man ignored them, swimming straight toward the farthest child.

“Hey! Save the closest ones first! Save whoever you can!” someone shouted at him.

At that moment, a neighbor tugged at the man’s sleeve and whispered, “The farthest one is his own child. He’s saving his own first.”

The man fell silent.

The man swam a long distance, pulled the child back, and handed him to a trusted person to watch. Then he plunged back into the water.

“Quick! CPR!”

One person stepped forward to perform CPR. After several compressions, the child finally responded, spitting out the water he had swallowed and opening his eyes.

“He’s okay! He’s okay!”

Little Chubby saw his friend being rescued and let out a wail of relief, finally able to cry without fear.

Meanwhile, the man had already pulled two more children from the water. “Quick! CPR!”

Just then, Zhu Lin and the other two arrived.

Zhu Lin asked the man, “Are you alright? Can you keep going?”

If he were to exhaust himself halfway, they might lose him too.

“I’m fine. I can do it,” the man replied, and dove back into the water.

Zhu Lin scanned the crowd. “Does anyone else know how to swim? Can someone go down to help him bring the child up?”

“I’ll go,” Zhou Rui said, jumping into the water to assist in the rescue.
