I Have a Post Apocalyptic Online Friend C13.1

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Chapter 13. Part 1

Before dawn, Zhou An’an was jolted awake by the piercing screech of brakes.

She scrambled out of bed and pulled the curtain aside just a crack. Peering through the gap, she still couldn’t see anything in the darkness.

The sound seemed to be nearby, likely from the main road outside, less than a hundred meters away.

Without turning on a light, she felt her way to a corner of the bus, retrieved a hammer, and gripped it tightly before returning to her bed.

A woman’s terrified scream tore through the darkness.

“Honey! Honey! Don’t bite him! Help! Someone, help! They’re killing him!”

The screams were punctuated by low growls and the sickening sound of tearing flesh, just like in a zombie movie.

The only difference was that no matter how scared you got watching a movie, you knew it was fake. This was happening right outside.

Zhou An’an didn’t dare go out. With her skills, she’d just be throwing her life away—utterly useless.

Soon, the woman’s screams turned to pleas.

“It hurts… Don’t bite me… It hurts…”

Her voice grew fainter until only the chaotic shuffling of footsteps remained, suggesting more than one attacker.

The footsteps drew closer, lingering just outside the bus.

Zhou An’an clamped a hand over her mouth, not daring to make a sound.

Fortunately, she had mentally prepared for this kind of scene and didn’t completely lose her composure.

Screeech—

The sound of sharp claws scraping against the bus’s exterior made her scalp tingle.

Zhou An’an instinctively glanced toward the doors.

The bus had three in total: one in the driver’s cabin, one in the middle of the passenger area, and one at the rear.

She couldn’t see anything in the darkness, but thankfully, she had developed the habit of locking all the doors as soon as she got on. All three were shut tight.

The things outside couldn’t get in. After lingering for a while, they finally moved on.

Zhou An’an let out a sigh of relief and leaned against the bus wall, realizing she was drenched in sweat.

Ignoring the sweat, she sent a message to Gu Zhao: Have you met up with your teammates?

About ten minutes later, he replied: We’ve linked up. We’re organizing everyone to evacuate to the Shelter. I heard many people in the city have already started turning. Be careful.

Zhou An’an’s heart sank as she read the message.

If others had already met their teammates, it meant the Doomsday Players had arrived in this world.

But what about Lu Yuan?

She quickly messaged him, asking where he was, but her message was met with complete silence.

Should I try a video call?

She considered it for a moment, then abandoned the idea. It was too dangerous outside. What if Lu Yuan had already arrived, and the ringtone attracted the zombies’ attention? It would be terrible if he got surrounded.

I’ll wait. We agreed to wait three days.

Zhou An’an couldn’t sleep anymore. She lay with her eyes open, waiting for dawn.

Throughout the darkness, she heard several more cries for help, each eventually fading into deathly silence.

At first, she could still check her phone, but soon the signal cut out completely, leaving her utterly isolated—an “island” cut off from the world.

Now, even if Lu Yuan wanted to reply, he couldn’t reach her.

A faint glow appeared on the horizon. Dawn was breaking.

After staying awake for hours, Zhou An’an couldn’t hold on any longer. She slumped against the bus seat and drifted off to sleep.

In her hazy state, she thought she heard someone calling her name.

“Zhou An’an… Zhou An’an…”

Am I dreaming?

No, that’s Lu Yuan’s voice!

She jolted awake to find the sky had brightened. The smoke had cleared, leaving only a faint pink haze in the air.

A tall man stood outside the bus, a bicycle lying overturned beside him. He was disheveled and filthy, his clothes in tatters—he looked even worse than a homeless person. He stared at her with an exasperated expression.

“Pig, do you know what time it is? Still sleeping? Open the door!”

The voice was so familiar that her body reacted before her mind could catch up, moving to do as he said.

Suddenly, a dark shadow lunged at him from the corner of her eye.

“Behind you!” Zhou An’an screamed.

He spun around, his long leg kicking out with practiced ease, sending the shadow sprawling. Then, he drew a short knife from his waist, straddled the shadow’s chest, and with both hands, plunged the blade deep into its forehead until only the hilt remained visible.

Zhou An’an stared, stunned. He pulled the knife free, stood up, and glanced at several figures rapidly approaching in the distance. He turned back to her. “Are you going to open the door or not? I can’t take on ten of them by myself.”

She quickly opened the door closest to him and locked it the moment he was inside.

The zombies swarmed the bus, pounding relentlessly on the door. The deafening thuds felt like they were hammering directly on her eardrums.

Zhou An’an gripped her hammer again, ready to smash their heads the instant they broke through.

But Lu Yuan was already strolling casually around the bus, inspecting it with idle curiosity. He even found time to tell her, “No need to stand guard. Those things can’t get in.”

Zhou An’an didn’t dare relax, remaining vigilant by the door.

He was right. The modified bus not only weighed eighteen tons but also had an incredibly sturdy frame. The zombies, being transformed humans, posed no real threat in such small numbers. They slammed against the bus for a long time, but it didn’t budge an inch.

A regular car or door would have been smashed to pieces by now, she thought.

Thank goodness. That million-plus yuan wasn’t wasted.

Zhou An’an sighed in relief and turned to look at him.
