Rebellious Game C2.1

Hey, first of all, thanks for reading my lousy Machine Translation. To be honest, I’d really like it if you guys corrected the mistakes I made. But please speak nicely and politely. My heart is not strong enough to read your too-harsh comments. Have a nice day. 🙂

Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!

Chp2. part1

“Waaah—” Liu Na collapsed to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.

Tan Qiaoqiao: Although she knew Liu Na was crying over a scumbag, she still felt somewhat guilty.

“Although Chang Heng was a scumbag, he’s dead.” Her straight male colleagues offered sincere comfort. “Although you were being betrayed, you’re still alive!”

“Waaah—” Liu Na cried even louder.

Tan Qiaoqiao: What a nice comfort, she will not do the same.

“When we were young, who didn’t experience a few scumbags?” Tan Qiaoqiao said solemnly.

Actually, she hadn’t.

Yun Xin probably hadn’t either.

But it doesn’t matter, being able to comfort her is enough.

Chang Heng was found. Liu Na cried uncontrollably, and no one mentioned returning to the company. A group of people watched the spectacle with amusement.

Chen Xuan shook his head as he watched. “I told you we shouldn’t just jump in. Look at them—trying to act like heroes, only to end up wasting time. They didn’t save anyone, and now they’re in trouble too. Everyone is trapped in that syrup, and it’s hard to get out.”

“Rescue work should be done within your capabilities. Trying to be brave only makes things difficult for the police.”

“The rescue team is already quite busy, having to divert their energy and resources…” “If they had gone to save them first, wouldn’t that have delayed things?”

“You can’t say that.” A colleague nearby couldn’t stand it anymore and retorted, “If it had been hot water instead of syrup, they would have successfully saved the person. If you’re not going to help, fine, but don’t make sarcastic remarks. They dared to risk their lives to save someone; even if they failed, they’re still heroes!”

“What sarcastic remarks? I call this rational thinking,” Chen Xuan argued vehemently.

Tan Qiaoqiao turned to Yun Xin and said, “Did you hear that? Rational thinking. Don’t save people recklessly in the future.”

Chen Xuan opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but then felt it wasn’t appropriate.

After a moment of awkward silence, he turned to look at the scenery, pretending not to have heard.

Just then, one of them pointed and asked hesitantly, “Am I seeing things? That sugar figurine… isn’t that our boss?”

Everyone: “?!?!”

They looked more closely, rubbed their eyes, and looked again, blinking several times before trying once more…

“Oh no!! It really is the boss!”

Several grown men howled like banshees, drowning out Liu Na’s voice.

Liu Na was stunned, forgetting to cry, staring blankly at them.

“I have to pay my mortgage, and support my wife and kids! Boss, you just disappeared after half a day?!”

“After graduation, I changed jobs five times. This one paid the most, had the least workload, and the best office atmosphere. The boss is gone, the company is gone, and now I have to go out and look for another job, waaaaah!”

“The office building is gone, we can find another one. Office supplies can be bought again. The boss is gone… what the heck, what are we going to do?”

“Did you guys even see clearly? Are you sure it’s the boss?” Yun Xin hadn’t even gotten a good look at the sugar figurine before her colleagues started wailing.

“Yeah, what if we cry to the wrong person? That would be so embarrassing,” Tan Qiaoqiao said. “The boss wasn’t in the office this morning, he said he went to the bank and wouldn’t be back until after the afternoon meeting. It’s only a few hours now, he might not be back yet.”

As she spoke, she took out her phone to call the boss.

The ringtone came from the direction of the sugar figure, the phone was probably in the boss’s pocket, now part of the statue.

Tan Qiaoqiao put down her phone, her feelings complicated. “It really is him.”

“What do we do now?”

Everyone looked at each other, clueless.

If it had just been a sudden accident, the injured would have been rescued, the damaged one would be fixed, the location would have been cleaned up, and everyone would have calmed down, life would have returned to normal. But when the boss becomes a sugar figurine, many things change.

“What happens to the company? Who will take over? Is this considered voluntary resignation or company lay off? Will we get compensation pay?” Chen Xuan asked a series of questions.

No one could answer.

Everyone was confused.

Someone stared blankly at the sky, “Isn’t this like paying to avoid disaster? I lost my job, but saved my life, it’s still a huge win.”

Initially, having escaped death, while their hearts pounded, a surge of elation welled up deep within them.

Later, they realised the (company’s) financial losses were manageable, and since it didn’t concern them, they adopted a spectator mentality.

Now, things have taken a dramatic turn. The comfortable job is gone, and a pang of heartache lingers.

This day has been a rollercoaster of emotions, incredibly dramatic.

Tan Qiaoqiao suddenly remembered a meme circulating online: One second, I’ve seen it all. The next second, this is something I’ve never seen before.

She thought to herself, a syrup leak accident- she’d never even heard of one, let alone witnessed it.

Looking at the semi-solidified syrup scattered on the ground, Tan Qiaoqiao wondered, “How could syrup leak for no reason? Such a huge accident, causing so many casualties, isn’t anyone going to take responsibility?”

“The police are busy rescuing people, perhaps they don’t have time to investigate yet,” Yun Xin guessed. “Once they’re done, they’ll start investigating the cause of the accident.”

She was very curious, was it a natural disaster or a man-made one? If it was a game’s doing, how did they manage to tamper with it?

“Seriously, who would build a sugar factory in a residential area?” Chen Xuan had just thought of this. “Aren’t these factories usually built in the suburbs, in remote, deserted places?”

“Besides, storing boiling hot syrup requires strict safety standards,” someone nearby added. “It must have been a shoddy businessman, violating safety standards, that caused this major accident.”

“If you ask me…” “This kind of person should be shot!”

“A scoundrel! He killed so many people, what will he compensate for? Even his life wouldn’t be enough. How many lives does he have? Enough to compensate so many people?”

“Because of sudden accidents and unexpected deaths, can these people receive compensation afterward? They are dead, but their families are still alive. With compensation, at least their families can live a better life.”

As the conversation went on, the topic veered off course. Chen Xuan took the lead in analysing how much the victims’ families could roughly expect to receive and how they should claim compensation, leaving the others stunned.

Yun Xin looked at the mess and sighed inwardly, The game is over, but the cleanup has just begun.

On the third day after the accident, the rescue operation ended, and the statistics were released. The syrup wave resulted in over sixty deaths and more than ninety injuries.

Additionally, vehicle damage, house destruction, and loss of public facilities caused incalculable financial losses.

The cleanup took a full five days. This was thanks to the sanitation team working overtime and other departments sending additional personnel.

It is said that even after the streets were cleaned, people could still smell the sweet aroma in the air.

Recalling that cloyingly sweet scent, Yun Xin, who had a sweet tooth, felt a sense of aversion for the first time.
